Throughout the first six series of of the story that is "Harry Potter", this was my impression when it came to Dumbledore was. I was impressed because he was the kind of person you should look up too as a role model in the wizarding society. After finishing the final book of J.K. Rowling's I must say that the crafty old guy was selfish. Though, I can say that there are some heavy emotional reasons for his acts of selfishness; numero uno!- Someone of a group of people kills your family member whom you dearly love, would that not give you reason to dispise the lot of them? Would not you want to see this lost family member again? Would not you want to protect the rest of the world from these kind of people? is it logical to sacrifice one innocent life for many innocent lives?...etc.
In a way, all these acts are selfish sure but you can agree that the series was one hell of a Wizarding Chess game expertly played by Dumbledore and Voldemort. Considering Harry including his crew and the Death Eaters are Pieces on opposite ends of the board.
There you have it, I favor the Egoism with Dumbledore Presentation......wonder why no one did a presentation on Snape and Egoism....the last book dive into his backstory which was an interesting piece.
